Union Mills Conservation Club Annual Newsletter 2024

It is our privilege to share with you our 2023 recap and upcoming events at the park in 2024!

Mill Pond Park, the Festival and our community had a wonderful 2023! Our festival was blessed with perfect weather, a variety of delicious foods, many craft vendors, and support from our community.

In December, we hosted our first Tree Lighting Ceremony with Santa, it was a great success! We are so thankful for our volunteers who made it a family friendly event. We hope to make this ceremony an annual event.

Financially, the Conservation Club has had its toughest year to date. In spring of 2023, the clubhouse roof needed replaced at a cost of our $1,000 deductible. Our HVAC System needed replaced at the cost of $24,128. Lastly, during our 2022 festival we received a fine from the Dept. of Homeland Security. Our clubhouse kitchen was not up to code and inspections would no longer be grandfathered in. During the last year and a half our board and a state representative argued directly with the State of Indiana. Unfortunately, the state would not bend. Our mandated, up to code fire suppression system cost $22,869. The year of 2023 cost us $47,997.

Previous boards had the foresight to set aside funds if these situations arose. Those situations arose and the funds are almost depleted. We are asking anyone who can donate directly to do so and share our situation with local companies and institutions as we are very much in need of finances. Our park is one of Union Mills only community resources that serves everyone. It’s crucial that we keep this resource for future generations.

Donations can be made in person or mailed to: UM Conservation Club, P.O. Box 67, Union Mills, IN 46382

On a happier note, the All-You-Can-Eat, Ham & Bean Supper will be on March 25, from 4-7:00 pm! Chili & Cornbread are on the menu. Tickets are $10.00 per adult, $5.00 per 12-5-year-olds, & preschoolers are free. Desserts are $1 each. Up to $1,000 in funds raised by this event will be matched by Kurtis Iseminger of Modern Woodman. Carry-outs are available with your own containers. As always, we need volunteers!

March is membership renewals! Family =$20; Business =$35; Lifetime=$150. Lifetime membership includes an annual $25 discount on rentals and their names displayed on clubhouse plaques. Dues may be paid in person or mailed to: UM Conservation Club, P.O. Box 67, Union Mills, IN 46382

Looking Ahead: Mark your calendars for a Pancake, Scrambled Eggs, Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast on Sunday, May 19th from 8:00am-11:00am at the clubhouse.

2024 Festival Meetings! Next meeting will be March 23rd, 3pm at the clubhouse. They are open to the public and volunteers are needed. Stay informed at www.millpondfestival.org. This year’s Festival will be on the fourth weekend in August, August 24-25th.

Check out the Conservation Clubs new Facebook & new website, www.unionmillscc.org. Soon we will be able to reserve rentals, view calendar of events, volunteer, make donations and payments online.

Monthly meetings are on the 4th Monday of every month, at 7 p.m., at the Clubhouse. We are always interested in ideas, activities, and volunteers to keep our park beautiful. We are especially in need of some younger citizens for leadership to carry on the traditions, preservation, and improvement of our beautiful park.

Looking forward to 2024 and seeing all of you back at OUR park!

Sincerely, Conservation Club Officers & TJ Frain, President
